These terms apply to anyone who creates an organizer account on OTRI (the Open Trail Running Index) at otri.run. Reading scores, using the score calculator and browsing races or runner profiles need no account and are covered only by the "Public content" section below.
1. What OTRI is
OTRI is an open, reproducible trail-running performance index built in the open. It is built in the open: features change, scores are recomputed when the scoring model changes, and the service may be unavailable at times. It is provided free of charge and without any guarantee of availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and must be acting for a race, club, timing company or similar organization (or as an individual organizer).
- You are responsible for everything done with your account. Keep your password private, use a strong one, and switch on two-factor authentication in your account settings if you can.
- Tell us at hello@otri.run if you think someone else has used your account.
- One person may hold one account. You may not sell or transfer it.
- We may close an account that breaks these terms or has been inactive for a long period; you may delete your account at any time (see Privacy policy, "Your rights").
3. What you upload
By uploading a course (GPX) or a results file you confirm that:
- You have the right to share that data with OTRI and to allow OTRI to publish scores derived from it. In particular, the runners in a results file have been told, in your entry terms or otherwise, that results will be published and may be processed by third parties.
- The data is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and you will correct it (or ask us to) when you learn it is wrong.
- The file does not contain more personal data than OTRI asks for. OTRI keeps names, gender, finish time and status, and, when supplied, bib number, year of birth and country; delete anything else before uploading. See Data policy.
You keep whatever rights you have in the data you upload. You grant OTRI a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process, publish and redistribute the results, course measurements and scores derived from it, for as long as the race stays published on OTRI, and to keep an archival copy for reproducibility afterwards. Unpublishing a race removes its results from every public page, and a published race cannot be deleted until it is unpublished. If the race was also listed, the race page and its course stay public until the listing is removed as well; the review screen says so and offers both.
4. Acceptable use
Do not:
- upload results you invented or altered, or results of a race that did not take place;
- publish, as your own, a race that is not yours: an organizer account is for the organizer's own races, and a timing provider's export is yours to upload only for races you organize;
- try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service beyond what the public source code already shows, or evade rate limits;
- use the service to harass anyone or to publish anything unlawful.
5. Public content and scores
Published leaderboards, scores, course measurements and runner profiles are public and may be viewed, linked and reused under the licences stated in the repository (README.md, "License"). The facts of a race that are already public (its course, date, distance and climb, who finished and in what time) are facts: OTRI may use and show them, naming the source, and so may anyone (Data policy, "Public race facts and course files"). Scores are computed by a versioned model documented under docs/methodology/; they are an index, not an official ranking, and OTRI makes no promise that a score means anything to a race, a sponsor or a selection committee.
Anyone may report a problem with a race, a runner profile or a shared course using the report form on that page. OTRI admins may correct, unpublish or delete content in response to a report, a legal request, or a breach of these terms, and will tell the organizer where possible.
6. Email
We send transactional email you cannot opt out of while you have an account: verification, password reset, sign-in codes if you choose email two-factor, and notices about your races or these terms. Marketing email (news about OTRI) is sent only if you ticked the news box at sign-up or in your account settings; you can untick it at any time in your account settings, and every such email carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, OTRI, its maintainers and contributors are not liable for any loss arising from the use of the service or from a score, measurement or leaderboard being wrong, late or unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Changes
We may change these terms as the product develops. Material changes are listed in CHANGELOG.md, and the date this document last changed is shown at the top of /terms/; continuing to use the account after a change is acceptance of the new terms. If you do not agree, delete your account.
9. Contact and governing law
Questions about these terms: hello@otri.run. The governing law and venue will be set when the operating entity is fixed; until then, treat this document as the maintainers' statement of how the service is meant to be used.
